Are you implying that adults who drink milk are doing so without thinking? And that it will only lead to weight gain?

Fat Free, 1% and 2% milk is readily available. Not to mention the fact that studies show that milk drinkers weigh less than people who do not usually drink milk. It is high in protein, calcium and vitamin D.

I think that when you mention the cruelty of animals and going vegetarian, those that oppose it are just weak minded, look for excuses and are afraid to acknowledge it is right to not participate in the mass slaughter of animals..

If you told a five year old that they take a cow and slice his throat until he bleeds to death in pain, I would bet that they would never want anything to with meat…ever..

Maybe these videos should be aired on TV..but that is way too harsh for the public….

I am relatively new to web design. Been a print/logo designer for darn near 6 years now, but I only started learning web design about a month ago. I know this is an older post, but I just read it tonight. I’m a Nettuts+ fan, but this is my first visit to your blog.

Jakob Nielsen argued for the use of numerals online as early as 1997. In 2007 he reported on eyetracking studies that back up his advice. The studies show that, “numerals often stop the wandering eye and attract fixations, even when they’re embedded within a mass of words that users otherwise ignore.” (http://www.useit.com/alertbox/writing-numbers.html)

We don’t read online content. We scan it. The fixation Nielsen describes makes numbers more memorable. They also shorten sentences and paragraphs. That’s usually considered a best practice for online text.

I did a quick online search. Many technical writing style guides don’t differentiate between printed and online text rules about numbers. But I found 2fs with contradictory advice.

A Purdue document titled “DM Best Practices: Writing for the Web” states: “When writing numbers, particularly as they represent facts, use numerals instead of words (i.e. 5 instead of five)”. (http://www.its.ipfw.edu/training/00-dm-webwriting.pdf, Page 13)

A document titled “Writing for the Web: Content is King” by the University of Buffalo’s School of Management disagrees: “Spell out whole numbers below 10 and use figures for 10 and above.” (http://mgt.buffalo.edu/files/internal/School%20of%20Management%20Editorial%20Guidelines.pdf, page 3)

Regardless of Nielsen’s recommendations, it pays for a freelance writer to find out what the customer wants!

Otherwise, I agree with the whole article. I am a vegetarian too even though my parents, near relatives and close friends aren’t {non-veggies!} and understand the pressure that comes from people around you…..They get shocked when they learn that you are a Vegetarian!!

. But come to think of it its also a matter of tradition, i eat the food my parents cook which they saw and their parents and naturally (i think) in the future i’ll enjoy the same food. being so open minded and making such a drastic change isn’t easy. don’t you get tempted ?

I didn’t know you had a different facet of writing than the technical (ie. laying out personal stories/thoughts in a nice way).
